Ford has presented its new zero emission Transit Connect Electric Van at this years Geneva Motor Show. The environmentally-friendly commercial vehicle has been unveiled at the show ahead of a planned European launch later in 2011, following on from its successful introduction in North America last year.
The Transit Connect Electric Van is a pure electric-powered version of the award-winning, long-wheelbase Transit Connect light commercial vehicle. With 28kWh of power to call on, Transit Connect Electric has a top speed of 75mph (120km/h) and a range of up to 130km/80 miles. Its lithium-ion battery pack is charged via a standard power outlet – an onboard converter then charges the battery pack. To fully charge the batteries uses a standard European 220/240-volt outlets and takes up to 10 hours.
Ford Motor Company states that the van will help owners to benefit from lower running costs by eliminating fuel bills, as well as assisting in carbon reduction efforts.
