Mercedes Benz will expand in to the Pickup Truck market by the end of the decade and be the first premium manufacturer to do so. Having identified the global popularity of the segment, Mercedes sees this as the ideal vehicle to move in to new markets, with huge sales potential.

Increasingly, both business and private customers are choosing pickup trucks due to versatility and practicality and there is a growing demand for vehicles with a high spec level. This has been highlighted by the success of the VW Amarok, launched in 2010 and is an area Mercedes is familiar with having been the first premium manufacturer to release a vehicle in to the SUV market when it launched the M-Class 20 years ago.

“The Mercedes-Benz Pickup will contribute nicely to our global growth targets,” says Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Division. “We will enter this segment with our distinctive brand identity and all of the vehicle attributes that are typical of the brand with regard to safety, comfort, powertrains, and value.”

Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, adds: “As part of our ‘Mercedes-Benz Vans goes global’ strategy, the pickup is the ideal vehicle for the international expansion of our product range with a newly developed model.”

If the final version looks anything like the picture above, im sure they will be on to an absolute winner!
